This morning, after being
by my cell phone alarm
from a deep deep dream rearranging
I had thought of yesterday
high school football players
running into a friend’s ex-girl
brainstorming names for a neuroscience center—
the bathroom white light blinded my eyes shut.
I must have showered
After all this,
I saw a twinkle.
A penny, lay heads up,
Lincoln—facing away from me but still,
Only the shiny, copper penny was on
the bathroom floor
near the toilet
what to do?
(and how had it gotten there?)
I hesitated, I picked it up.
I put it in my big glass beer bottle bank.
I could not shake yesterday til I was willing for today.
